What Is Ultrasonic Facial Toning? Introducing A Facelift Without The Scalpel

A Non-Invasive Skincare Treatment That Offers The Benefits Of A Facelift

Most people think to regain the tight, lifted skin of youth you must go under the knife. Thanks to technology, that is just not the case anymore! During the past decade, the cosmetic world has seen a huge increase in the desire for non-surgical skin treatments that offer the same benefits as a facelift, resulting in the advancement of tools that offer no downtime, no needles and no scalpels. Ultrasound (or Ultrasonic) Facial Toning is a fantastic option for those who wish the same, and a method that has been used for 8 years at Kasnoff Skin Clinic.

What is Ultrasound Facial Toning?

Ultrasound has been used for cosmetic purpose since the early 1980’s and is considered a very effective, non-invasive skincare treatment. Because of its wide therapeutic use for sagging skin, sun damaged skin, and lymphatic drainage, the ultrasonic instrument is a natural choice during facial treatments.

The Ultrasonic Spatula is often referred to as “the new generation of microdermabrasion” or what is being called “soft peeling”.  There is little to no redness or downtime and thus, perfect for sensitive or acneic skin.  This “spatula” (a flat metal instrument with a hollow center) can be set to different frequencies of penetration to provide a thorough  “power washing“ of the pores and follicles, giving an intense micro-massage to heat the skin tissue.  What feels like miniature vibrations and micro-shocks on the skin actually stimulates blood flow and increases collagen production to give the skin a lifted and more youthful appearance.  Depending on the position of the spatula, it can assist skincare products into the deeper levels of skin tissue and again, accelerate blood circulation and strengthen skin tissue metabolism, resulting in a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

Why is it called  “ultrasonic deep pore cleansing”?

I use Ultrasound towards the end of a facial once the outermost surface debris has been cleaned away to provide a deeper level of cleansing and remove the built up dead skin cells, debris, oil and other impurities deep in the pores and follicles. Hence the name Ultrasonic Deep Pore Cleansing.  The “ablation”, or retexturizing of the skin, happens with the use of an ultrasound vibration of up to 28,000 cycles per second (can you provide an example of what this is similar to? Like the force of…? ) and a topical aqueous solution.  I use a water formula with either Glycolic, Salicyic, or an enzyme solution to loosen dead skin cells and gently guide the spatula across the face so the ultrasonic soundwaves can lift the dry skin cells off the skin while I wipe it away with a cotton cloth.  At the same time, the water formula is penetrating deep into the pores and follicles, loosening any leftover debris and injecting the acid deep into the skin for maximum effectiveness.  I call this “Ultrasonic Powerwashing”.  Interestingly, a similar treatment is used in dentistry to gently remove plaque and tartar from the gum-line.

I prefer this method of deep pore cleansing to the more popular method of manual extractions which I find to be damaging to the delicate dermis.  New clients are often sceptical that their blackheads can be removed with anything other than aggressive “picking” and are amazed at the effectiveness of Ultrasound, especially when they see the debris build up on the tool when I am finished.  This method can be used on the neck, chest, and back, leaving the skin smooth, clean and glowing rather than sore red and damaged.

How is it similar to a “facelift”?

An Ultrasound facial uses totally safe and painless low-level electrical impulses to “reprogram” facial muscles. It increase cellular turnover, plumps and smooths out fine lines and wrinkles, tightens sagging skin, and promotes blood circulation so the skin can repair itself. It is completely non-invasive, meaning there is no down time, peeling, redness, or uncomfortable side effects after treatment. Unlike other laser treatments that simply target the outer layers of skin, ultrasound therapy bypasses the skin’s surface and delivers the collagen stimulating ultrasound energy to the deepest layers. What’s great is that you will see and feel results after one treatment!
